MCAC announces fifth-annual True Sport soccer team

The MCAC is proud to announce 10 student-athletes as the fifth-annual True Sport team for the 2025 soccer season.

The True Sport team recognizes individuals who demonstrate the principles of True Sport on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

2025 soccer True Sport team:

Mauricio Pastor — AC men

Bryson Haywood — BU men

Taiwo Oshode — CMU men

Kian Minnaar — PUC men

Reginald Jean-Paul — USB men

Lexie Constant — AC women

Molly MacPherson-Blair — BU women

Madison Kilburn — CMU women

Cassie Hoytema — PUC women

Paris Gauthier — USB women

 

Each selected student-athlete is invited to apply for the Bill Wedlake True Sport Award, with two deserving individuals receiving a $250 award.

Mauricio Pastor — "It has been a pleasure to coach Mauricio for the past few seasons. I love the energy and positivity that Mauricio brings to the pitch each and every day, regardless of the circumstance." — Chris McLachlan

Bryson Haywood — "Bryson is a prime example of dedication. Always allowing himself and others to give the best version possible. He is a person who is always looking to improve as a player and a person, but most importantly, he always works hard to make sure others can succeed as well." — Diego Rodriguez Jr.

Taiwo Oshode — "Taiwo is the kind of player every coach hopes to have, humble and driven to make those around them better. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the community, they consistently lead by example." — Gode Katembo

Kian Minnaar — "You can never question Kian's commitment to the team, his effort on the field, his dedication to his studies. He is willing to die for the badge and is such a great person who gives everyone joy. Happy that he is a Pilot, we are proud to have him on our team." — Giovanni Benitez Friesen

Reginald Jean-Paul — "Reginald is a leader on and off the field. His hard work inspires his teammates and his kindness impacts the whole team. Reginald helps the rookies and talks to them at victory and in defeat. He is respectful to staff, teammates, officials and coaches and plays hard but fair." — Yahia Chihab

Lexie Constant — "Despite this being her first year, and coming from a small community, Lexie Constant keeps demonstrating that she really loves the course she is taking, and that she really wants to get good grades so that she can keep playing the sport she loves. When Lexie plays in defence, the opponents always struggle to dribble past her." — Manuel Luben Lozano

Molly MacPherson-Blair — "A true leader on and off the field, Molly embodies the True Sport principles: she plays fair, lifts her teammates, gives her all, and inspires everyone around her. A Bobcat through and through!" — Diego Rodriguez Sr.

Madison Kilburn — "Madison's infectious enthusiasm and genuine care for her teammates shine through in everything she does. Her hard work and commitment to including everyone, both on and off the field, make her an exemplary team player and a true leader." — Peter Marinelli

Cassie Hoytema — "The main thing that stands out to me is that Cassie cares deeply for her teammates. She strives to be a player who always supports, encourages and gives energy to her teammates. She is such a hard worker, and is a joy to coach." — Tory Walker

Paris Gauthier — "Paris is a fantastic teammate and community leader. She is passionate not only about soccer, but about the culture of community at USB. She makes the game fun and enjoyable for her teammates, while maintaining a positive, challenging environment." — Tonya Derkson

 

The True Sport selection process is based on seven principles:

1. Go For It – Rise to the challenge - always strive for excellence. Be persistent and discover how good you can be.

2. Play Fair – Understand, respect, and follow the rules. Play with integrity - competition is only meaningful when it is fair.

3. Respect Others – Show respect for everyone involved in creating your sporting experience, both on and off the field of play. Win with dignity and lose with grace.

4. Keep It Fun – Find the joy in sport and share it with others. Remember what you love about sport and why you play.

5. Stay Healthy – Always respect and care for your mind and body. Advocate for the health and safety of yourself and those around you.

6. Include Everyone – Recognize and celebrate strength in diversity. Invite and welcome others into sport.

7. Give Back – Say thanks and show gratitude. Encourage your sport group to make a difference in the community.

 

The MCAC will announce its soccer coaches of the year on Wednesday.
