Katembo named men's soccer coach of the year

Gode Katembo led a massive turnaround with the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers this year.
The head coach took the team from a three-win season and the #4 seed to a 9-2-1 finish in the MCAC men's soccer standings.
Katembo is the MCAC men's soccer coach of the year.
"Gode has stepped into the full head coaching position in 2025, with a clear vision of excellence for the program," said CMU director of athletics Russell Willms.
"Gode has a deep understanding of the transformational power that sport has, and through his leadership, Gode has leveraged sport to elevate our program to new heights. We are happy that Gode has been recognized."
Katembo took one of the best rookie classes in recent history and empowered them to play pivotal roles on the pitch alongside a handful of strong veterans.
CMU's only losses were to the top-ranked Brandon University Bobcats.
The Blazers face the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges in Saturday's semifinals at Cougars Field in Brandon at 2:30 p.m.
The Bobcats host the Providence University College Pilots in the other semifinal at 2:30 p.m.
The final is on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Healthy Living Centre.
